High School Teaching Unit on
Torah and Science

Over the past few years, Professor Aviezer and Moshe Abelesz, of the Lookstein Center for Jewish Education of Bar-Ilan University, have developed a teaching unit on “Torah and Science” for the high school level. The teaching material consists of a Teacher’s Guide and Student Workbook, together with a fully animated video in English and Hebrew. The script involves a trip in a time-machine accompanied by Maimonides, Einstein and Darwin, among others. The video was developed for a teenage audience. You can watch the video here:

In the Beginning, English

In the Beginning, Hebrew

The preparation of the animated video was made possible through the very generous sponsorship of
Drs. Mordehai and Monique Katz.

The purpose of the teaching unit is to:

  • Provide the student with the intellectual tools with which to cope in today’s modern setting
  • Strengthen the belief of the student
  • Help the student resolve any doubts about the validity of the Torah stemming from apparent contradictions between Torah and science
  • Demonstrate how the study of science can complement the study of Torah

The teaching unit consists of three parts:

Part I: CREATION OF THE UNIVERSE
Part II: EVOLUTION AND THE TORAH
Part III: CREATION OF MAN
